Abstract
Perlac 7 (B-whey) was studied for finishers (32-103 kg) on a farm using liquid feed mixed on-farm fed ad lib.

The trial included a control group in which water was the only liquid component of the liquid feed, and a trial group in which the liquid feed contained approx. 70% Perlac 7 from Bislev Mejeri, Arla Foods.

The trial comprised approx. 2,350 pigs per group and 69 replicates in both groups.

The production value per place unit/year was recorded as primary parameter and calculated on the basis of daily gain, feed conversion and lean meat percentage using the same price per FUgp in both groups. Furthermore, the current production value was calculated with current feed prices including the price of Perlac 7.

When the same feed price was used in both groups, the trial showed no significant difference in the production value for liquid feed with approx. 70% Perlac 7 compared with liquid feed with water as the only liquid component. The current production value calculated with current feed prices was 18% higher in the trial group with Perlac 7 than in the control group which was primarily due to the fact that the current price per 100 FUgp was DKK 9 lower for the Perlac 7 diet compared with the control diet.

The gastric health of the pigs was generally good, but there were significantly more gastric changes in the white part of the stomach in the group given Perlac 7 compared with the control group. The difference in gastric health between the two groups was small and is not estimated to have had any influence on the production results of the pigs.

There was no significant difference between the groups in the number of treatments for disease, mortality or manure texture.

On the basis of the trial results, it can be expected that Perlac 7 in liquid feed for finishers yields production results that are identical to the production results obtained when liquid feed is used in which water is the only liquid component. Thus, the trial showed that the energy value (FUgp) is estimated correctly in Perlac 7.
