Report no. 502Jes Callesen 25.01.2001
Betafin for finishers
Abstract
Two test diets were compared to each other and to a control mix. None of the diets contained antibiotic growth promoters. The test comprised the following treatments: All feed mixes were tested for finishers in the weight interval 29-99 kg in one herd. There was a total of 72 pigs in each group divided into 24 blocks (pens), and there were three pigs in each pen. The production value was calculated on the basis of the production results and stated as gross margin per place unit per year using the same price for all diets. Overall, the test showed that it was not possible to prove a significant difference in production value by adding Betafin to a low-energy mix neither compared to a low-energy mix without Betafin nor compared to the control diet. The energy content in the low-energy mixes (groups 2 and 3), however, was higher (1.07 FUp/kg) than planned (1.04 FUp/kg), and that may have limited the effect of the product tested. Variability in this test was relatively high, compared to other units, and decreased the statistical sensitivity. To read report 502 in its entirety as PDF file, please click here. |
