Commercial feed mixes for finishers – sold in the eastern islands of Denmark

Abstract
Five different feed mixes sold in the eastern islands of Denmark for finishers have been tested.

The five mixes were compared to each other and to a control mix. The feed was purchased without the feedstuff companies knowing it was to be included in a test. The test was carried out in one herd and comprised 1,044 pigs. The test comprised the following mixes:

Dansk Landbrugs Grovvareselskab (DLG):

Mondeo UK

Korn- og Foderstof Kompagniet (KFK):

Bacona Korn

Østsjællands Andel (ØA):

Svinefoder Antonio

Roskilde Andel (RA):

SPF-Medio

Bornholms Andels Foderstofforretning (BAF):

Anton 106

There were no differences between the mixes in the number of pigs that died, the number of pigs that were removed from the test or the number treatments for diarrhoea.

The production value was significantly higher for the control mix and the mix from DLG compared to the mix from RA. The mix from KFK led to a production value that was significantly higher compared to the mixes from ØA, RA and BAF. The production value was not significantly different between the other mixes.

Overall, the test showed that there were significant differences in the production value and the emission of nitrogen between the tested mixes sold in the eastern islands of Denmark.
