Energy content and feed evaluation systems

Abstract
All countries do not use the same feed evaluation system. It is
therefore interesting to investigate the correlation between feed
units in the Danish feed evaluation system and energy calculations
in foreign feed evaluation systems.
Below, a comparison is shown of typical diets in various energy
calculations.
Comparison between different energy calculations
All countries do not use the same feed evaluation system. It is
therefore interesting to investigate the correlation between feed
units in the Danish feed evaluation system (based on physiological
energy) and energy calculations in foreign feed evaluation
systems.
In table 1, the energy content of typical diets is calculated in
different feed evaluation systems. For estimation of the French and
Dutch net energies (NE), the energy coefficients of the two
countries were entered into the Danish equation for calculation of
potential physiological energy (PPE), and are thereby estimated via
the Danish in vitro digestibilities EFOS and EFOSi. This method was
proven applicable at a seminar held in Denmark in 2003 attended by
French, Dutch, British and Danish experts within this field.
However, the conversions are only guiding as differences in
digestibilities and in the ingredients used cannot be ruled
out.
